What does it mean that God is Father? What does it means about him, and what does it mean for us?
We’re at the start of our series on the Nicene Creed. And the first section is remarkably short. ‘We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen’.
We have in our readings today two encounters with Jesus. We have Jesus calling the first of his disciples, including Simon, called Peter, and we have Paul writing about the Gospel, mentioning in passing his own encounter with Jesus.
In some ways these two men couldn’t be more different.
As we come to Maundy Thursday we come to a foretaste of what is to come, both in the life of Jesus in the days ahead, and in our ultimate destination.
On the night before he dies, Jesus stoops. He stoops down to wash his disciples feet. Such an act is surprising and even a little scandalous in itself…
