Christmas at St David’s
We have lots coming up over December as we get ready to celebrate Christmas and we’d love to have you join us. All events are open to anyone and everyone. We look forward to welcoming you!
Advent Worship
The 9.30
During our 9.30 services this Advent we’ll be focussing ourselves on Jesus with that dual focus of looking back to his birth and ahead to his return. You can expect both traditional Advent carols and modern songs, the weekly lighting of the Advent crown as the light shines brighter in the darkness and fellowship together over tea and coffee as we journey together.
Candlelit Carols
Sunday 7th December, 6pm
We’ll be gathering be candlelight to hear again the story of Jesus’ birth, sing our favourite carols, and ponder what all this means for us.
Christmas on the Green
Friday 19th December, 5pm
Carols, choirs, food, what more could you ask for? We’ll be getting all Christmassy at this wonderful community event for all the family, perfect for heading into Christmas week.
Quieter Christmas
Sunday 21st December, 5pm
A service for those for whom this time of year is hard, who aren’t feeling joyful, particularly those mourning loved ones. We’ll sing some reflective carols, hear some readings and poems and have the chance to add loved ones names to our memory tree.
Crib Service with Scratch Nativity
Christmas Eve, 2pm
A child friendly service setting up the Crib ready for Christmas. As we do we’ll be telling the story together with a ‘scratch nativity’, no rehearsals needed.
Kids are welcome to come dressed up as a shepherd, wiseman, Mary, Joseph or an angel. Costumes can be as simple as a tea towel on the head for a shepherd (or a soft toy sheep), tinsel as a belt or tied around the head for an angel, a paper crown for a wise man or just wear something blue to be Mary. Not got a costume or time to sort one out? We’ll have plenty to spare if you want to dress up at church instead.
Not feeling like dressing up? That’s fine too! Simply sit back and watch or help out with the crib figures. Everyone can get as involved or not as they feel comfortable.
Midnight Communion (Mass) by Candlelight
Christmas Eve, 11pm
Our candlelit first celebration of Christmas itself. We’ll gather in candlelight to celebrate the birth of Jesus as we welcome in Christmas Day. This takes the form of a service of Holy Communion, for more about what to expect at Holy Communion see here: Worship
Christmas Day Communion
Christmas Day, 9.30am
A simpler service of communion with acapella carols and a more reflective atmosphere.
Plygain
Thursday 22nd January, 6pm
A carol service unique to Wales, all in Welsh. The main part of the service is different choirs, groups and soloists bringing a carol or two as we listen and reflect together. All are welcome, regardless of how well you speak Welsh.
